Prevention and detection of crimes against passengers and their properties and also the maintenance of Law & Orders in the Railway premises are the direct responsibilities of the Government Railway Police (GRP) working under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The responsibility of providing security to the Railwaymen, Railway Properties and the properties entrusted to it for carrying falls under the duties of Railway Nirapatta Bahini(RNB).

• Maintenance of law and orders on the Railway premises.
• Providing security to the passengers and their properties and passenger trains.
• Preventing and detecting crimes on B.R.

• Prevention and detection of crime on the Railway.
• Protection and safe-guarding the Railway properties.
• Removing any obstruction in the movement of Railway, its properties and the properties entrusted to it for carriage.
• Escorting of cash movement and protecting pay offices of the Railway.
• Providing security to the goods trains and luggage & parcel vans of passenger trains.
• Assisting during Block Check and Mobile Court.
• Eviction of unauthorized occupants in the Railway premises, under the command of Railway Estate Officers/Magistrates.
